Icing the Cake!
Somewhere near Reykjavík, in Iceland, 3 years ago, my partner Stella and I got out of the freezing snowstorm onto a massively tracked snow bus to take us up a steep and slippery road to the Skiddoo hire center in the middle of white cold windy nowhere and gratefully grabbed two of the last seats. That left one seat in among the damp but musty global throng of people next to us and we indicated to recently arrived but bubbly lady in red that she should grab it and join us on the road up to ‘freeze-your-face-off glacier’.
Providence strike 1! That lady was English and so very soon we were easily exchanging life stories and our many travel experiences, and in just that half hour in the cold, soon to be much colder state, we made a lovely new friend! Just in passing, I learned that Tammie ran her very own specialised Home Finance Solutions business from Hastings back in good old Blighty, which I had left back in 2018 to move to Finland and then Croatia with Stella.
Providence strike 2! My son would be looking to raise a mortgage for his first home in Norwich in the next couple of years but presented a difficult profile, being newly self-employed in a most unusual business in the world of anime design that most mortgage providers would run very shy of. Something about Tammie in those few moments told me I had met the answer to his hopes and dreams of buying his first home, and so we exchanged business cards in the old-fashioned way and resolved to stay in touch. Assuming that we survived the skiddoos and the high frozen wastes of the glacier, that is, and the nearby volcanic eruptions and quakes that were posted for that day.
Providence strike 3! We did survive, and when my son got himself organized in 2024, he made contact with Tammie and immediately benefitted from her most professional amazing and friendly services. Knocking his father’s advice not to get his hopes up straight into the softer winter snows of Norwich, Tammie secured him a really great mortgage deal in no time and so, just before Christmas, he and his partner moved into their first new home. Happy son, happy life!
It’s why we travel. Meeting fellow travellers in crazy places and circumstances, making super new friends, and finding the very best of help and advice for life just by chance from the very best of people. One can’t advertise and market ‘Providence’, it just happens and for me, and ultimately my son, it materialised in the form of a snow-covered, red puffer-coated Tammie on an icebus one day near Reykjavík.
